Maine State Prison Band Prepares for First Public ConcertSounds of Comfort

The group Sounds of Comfort will be performing, a band made up of men inside the walls in Warren.

They’re all members of the hospice program there and help take care of sick and dying prisoners.

The musicians are all prisoners at the Maine State Prison, and they (along with about 12 others) are trained hospice volunteers who serve terminally ill men in the prison infirmary the same way patient care volunteers in all hospices serve patients.

Making Tough Decisions...

Cookie Horner, left, and Nan Miller, representing Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County, recently conducted a two-week class called “How to Have The Conversation” at Southwest Harbor Public Library.
