This year’s event will be in honor of the man who started it all by bringing the Hospice Regatta to Maine and to Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County. He is greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

“I first became aware of Hospice because of sailing. I am an avid racing sailor and when the Hospice Regatta of Maine showed up on our fleet calendar I signed up. I raced, won a nice trophy, then began to look into the organization that had sponsored the event. I noticed that among the names of the supporters were a few people I knew and admired – Jim Fernald, Fran Charles and Bill and Cookie Horner. I asked how I could assist and discovered that I could train to become a Hospice Volunteer. That was a life-changing moment! Almost nothing in my life has been as rewarding as the opportunity to serve others as a Hospice volunteer. And it all happened because I signed up for a sailboat race.” – Ned Johnston – Hospice Volunteer
