Navigating Resources through Serious Illness (1 1/2 hours)

Facing a serious illness, whether personally or with a loved one, can leave you feeling alone and confused about where to even begin. There are numerous resources available to support you and your loved ones on this journey. By understanding the available services, having important conversations, and making your wishes known, you can navigate this challenging time with clarity and peace of mind. This program will review care options, from palliative care to medical hospice, as well as volunteer support. We will explore how to communicate your wishes and debunk common myths about hospice and end-of-life care. You do not need to walk this journey alone. There will be plenty of time for sharing with one another.

Five Wishes – The Gift of Conversation (1 ½ hours)

Many individuals recognize the importance of discussing their end-of-life care wishes, yet few have had these conversations. Have you had that talk? In this session, you will discover more about advanced care planning and how to share this vital conversation with those who matter most in your life. The emphasis will be on:

  • How to initiate advanced care planning discussions with loved ones.
  • Choosing the right person to speak for you when you cannot communicate for yourself due to a health crisis.
  • The significance of updating your documents as life situations change.

All attendees will receive a complimentary Five Wishes document, which will guide you through the necessary steps and considerations. Once completed and signed, this document serves as a legally valid advance directive. Join us to ensure that your end-of-life wishes are honored. This class is led by Five Wishes Certified Presenters.

Caregiver Self-Care

As a caregiver, you play a vital role in the life of your loved one. However, it is important to remember that taking care of yourself is important too. Your physical and emotional well-being directly impacts your ability to provide care. Prioritizing self-care prevents burnout and improves overall health. This presentation will include tips for good self-care, finding time for yourself and potential resources. This is designed for current caregivers and will include an open discussion segment. Share your experiences, challenges, and solutions. Learning from each other is a valuable part of the journey. Remember, taking time for yourself is taking time for someone very important – you. By prioritizing self-care, you are better equipped to care for your loved one and support yourself in the process.

The Gift of Story – Sharing Your Legacy (1 ½ hours)

Have you ever considered how you might want to document your story, or the stories of your parents and grandparents? The urge to share our narratives is powerful, and leaving your story behind for your loved ones is a precious gift. Each of us has a unique tale to tell, and there are numerous ways to express it—whether through journaling, creating a video, or making an audio recording. In this discussion, we will delve into the concept of storytelling, its significance both now and as we age, and the types of questions we should ask ourselves while contemplating how to share our legacy or record someone else’s. We hope you will feel motivated to share your own story or assist a loved one in sharing theirs. This can be an enjoyable journey, and the perfect time to begin is now.
