2012 Dinner Parties For A Cause

Party with A Purpose! Choose from nine festive dinner parties featuring superb food and wine — prepared by talented local cooks in beautiful homes. All dinners are reasonably priced — and the cost is partially tax-deductible! Have fun as you make new friends and meet your neighbors in gracious, casual settings to benefit a wonderful community organization — Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County.

Party Calendar

1. Minster, Ohio German Supper Party

($65 per person) Saturday, May 19, 6-9 pm.
Hosted by Gina and Tom Grogean, Newbury Neck, Surry.

Traditional German hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and Minster’s own Wooden Shoe beer, smoked sausage served with sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, Surry applesauce and dessert looking east over Union River Bay to Cadillac Mountain.

2. Elegant Dinner Picnic at Camp

($65 per person) Saturday, June 2, 5:30 pm.
Hosted by Cookie & Bill Horner, Jackie Bachman & Andy Horner, Pretty Marsh, Mount Desert Island.

Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on the rocks at Pretty Marsh, and a divine salmon dinner in the cozy log cabin.

3. Simple French Cooking

($65 per person) Sunday, June 3, 5-8 pm.
Hosted by Joel Frantzman with Ken Schweikert and HVHC staff, Sullivan, with views of Frenchman’s Bay.

Local saumon fumé and rosé wine on the lawn , Coquilles St. Jacques (scallops), Panade a l’Oignon (best onion soup ever) and Sabayon au Muscat (rich and creamy dessert).

4. Sunset over Blue Hill Bay

($75 per person) Friday, June 8, 6:30 pm.
Hosted by Victor Stanley and Howard Monroe, Bernard, Mount Desert Island.

Cocktails and caviar tart, lobster cakes and grilled leg of lamb and preacher’s pie (sans sermon!) to end the night. 

5. A Trip to Tuscany

($75 per person) Friday, June 8, 6 pm.
Hosted by Toni and Joe Smith, with Diane and Frank Bianco, Brooklin.

Cookbook author Diane Bianco brings back ideas from her recent trip to Tuscany: warm olives with garlic, wild mushroom crostini, homemade shrimp ravioli, tenderloin of beef and chocolate tiramisu with wines expertly matched by Max from the Blue Hill Wine Shop. 

6. Italian-inspired Fresh and Local

($65 per person) Friday, June 22, 6 pm.

Delicious organic ingredients, fresh from the garden and barnyard, make for a delectable Italian-inspired feast. Hosted by Lydia Cassatt & Philip Osgood, Brooksville.

7. Lakeside Dining on Hopkins Pond

($65 per person) Saturday, June 23, 5:30-9:30 pm.
Hosted by new HVHC volunteer Molly Kealy & gourmet chef Harvey Walters, Hopkins Pond, Mariaville.

Relax with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on the dock with the haunting call of the loons before retreating to intimate dining overlooking the lake. Refreshing gazpacho followed by beef tenderloin in chile butter sauce with seasonal fresh vegetables and salad accompaniments and wine pairings.

8. Basque Bistro

($75 per person) Sunday, September 23, 4 pm.
Hosted by Wendy and HVHC Board member Ken Schweikert, Sunflower Farm on Salt Pond, Blue Hill.

Casual, friendly, old-world style with tapas, fresh greens & figs, shellfish, and turkey stuffed with chestnuts & chanterelles accompanied by wines of the region as the sun sets over the Salt Pond. 

9. Classic Downeast Supper

($65 per person) Sunday, October 7, 6-9 pm.
Hosted by David Chalfant and John Edwards, Sedgwick. 

Enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres by a cozy fire in a vintage 1920's cottage followed by lobster corn chowder, local greens and bread, double apple crisp with homemade ice cream. Wines included.
